Queens & Camps Teams Off To Winning Start
Posted by Ryan Carter on Thursday, May 22, 2014
The Queens Hotel got their Wick & District Summer Pool League title defense off to a great start on Monday night thanks to an 8-2 away win against the Mountain Dew. Perry Campbell's side raced into a 6-0 lead to secure all three points in their opening match of the 2014 season. Campbell and Scott Risbridger won all three of their games for the Queens Hotel on their way to a comfortable victory. An exceptional team performance from 2012 champions Camps Bar "2" earned them an impressive 9-1 win against the Francis Street Club. After missing the black for a total clearance in the opening frame, Ryan Carter went on to knock in an 8-ball and 7-ball clearance in his next two frames to help his side earn the three points. David Hendry and Gary Oag were also in form, and a nice 7-ball clearance by Bruce Honeyman completed what was a great team effort. Shane Honeyman and Dave Mcgillivray both won all three of their games to help their Camps Bar "1" side earn a 7-3 away win against Retro "2". At 3-1 down the Retro team fought back to 3-2, with Mark Nicolson and Liam Farquhar leaving their opponents with 7 balls left on the table. Honeyman and Mcgillivray would win the next three frames to clinch the three points for Camps "1". Andrew Edwards and James Ross were the star players for Retro "1" on Monday night, winning all three of their games to help their side earn a 5-5 draw against Sinclair Bay. The Keiss side were 5-3 ahead, but Edwards and Ross won the next two games to earn a well deserved point. The Commercial Hotel had a free week, but will host Camps Bar "2" next Monday.
