Week 1 In The Wick & District Pool League
Posted by Ryan Carter on Tuesday, October 11, 2011
The opening night of the Wick & District Pool league 2011/12 season
saw last seasons division 2 champions Seaforth Club face the current
division1 holders Camps2.
Ryan Carter got the match underway against former team mate Gary Macalpine. Macalpine nearly completed an excellent clearance until he missed a black into the middle pocket. Carter then took full advantage by completing a total clearance to put Camps2 1-0 ahead.
This seemed to spur on the Camps side as they raced into a 6-0 lead with notable performances from Bruce Honeyman and Andy Mcwatt. The Seaforth Club then got a frame on the board as Gary Macalpine recorded a total clearance with an exceptional shot on the black. Camps2 ran out 9-2 winners in a match where all frames were extremely close.
Two evenly matched teams in Blackstairs1 and The FSC1 faced off against each other in what was sure to be a close match. Blackstairs1 showed they are serious contenders this season with a fine 8-3 win. Bayview1 also recorded an 8-3 win as they cruised past Camps1. George Smith and Liam More left their opponents with 7 balls but it wasnt enough to keep their Camps side from losing the match.
Newly promoted Queens got off to a great start in division 1 as they defeated The Commercial 6-5. Lee Kerr had a fine match winning all his games for The Commercial but it wasnt going to stop the Queens lads from running out winners.
Sinclair Bay look to get straight back up to the top flight after being relegated last season. They got their 2nd division campaign off to a flyer by defeating Mountain Dew1 10-1. Sasa's and Mountain Dew2 both held their nerves to run out 6-5 winners over FSC2 and Crown2 respectively.
