March 5, 2013Ryan Cook's Blackstairs "2" side produced an outstanding team performance in the Wick District Pool League on Monday night, defeating Bayview "1" 8-3. Some great pool played by James Riach, Gordon Steven, Arthur Bruce and Alex Rosie helped the Blackstairs team race into a 4-0 lead. Ted Gunn defeated Ryan Cook to pull one back for the Lybster side, before John Martin regained a four frame lead at 5-1. Riach and Steven were again impressive in their doubles as they clinched a vital two points for Blackstairs "2". Ryan Cook's team face 6 time champions Camps "2" next Monday, and a win for them will put them in a great position to challenge for the title.
Alan Larnach's Crown "1" side remain in great form and are now top of Division One after an 8-3 win over Blackstairs "1".
The Seaforth Club were looking to keep up their winning streak on Monday night as they went up against The Commercial. The match turned out to be a classic as it went to a deciding frame. Willie Bain and Kevin Cameron played some great pool to help the Lybster team take a 2-0 lead. The Commercial then took the next two frames to lead 4-0. Dale Johnston and David Malcolm got the Seaforth team right back into the match as they pulled it back to 4-2. Cameron then completed an excellent clearance but the white went in off the black which made it 4-3. The club were in determined mode now and won the next two doubles games to turn a 4-0 deficit into a 5-4 lead. The Commercial fought back to 5-5, before Raymond Gunn potted the all important black ball to clinch a 6-5 win for the Lybster side.
Sinclair Bay put in a great team performance to stay top of Division Two, defeating Camps "1" 8-3. The Keiss side raced into a 6-0 lead to clinch the points, but some good pool played by John Cowie and Lesley Ann Begg helped the Camps team get some frames on the board.
