This week saw the first legs of The Rockwater Shield semi-finals take place, with 4 strong teams battling it out for a place in this seasons final.
The current holders Camps2 traveled out to Lybster to face division one league leaders Bayview1. Jimmy Riach got the holders off to a great start, but the match was leveled at 1-1 thanks to some outstanding potting from Bayview's Angus Mackay.  Camps2 captain Bruce Honeyman then defeated Kevin Lightly to make it 2-1.  The next frame saw Johnny Mackay and Ryan Carter involved in an epic tactical battle.
Neither player put a foot wrong in a long grueling frame, but it was Carter that eventually won the battle to make it 3-1 to The Camps Bar.  Andy McWatt and David Hendry kept up the high standard of play as they helped to stretch their sides lead to 5-1.  Bayview1 then appeared to be mounting a comeback as they won the 7th frame and were dominating in the 8th frame, however Honeyman and Carter fought their way back into it with the latter clearing the table for a 6-2 win for Camps2.
The other semi-final was held in The Francis Street Club as they faced division 2 league leaders The Seaforth Club.  The home side went 2-0 down, but battled back into the match to make it 2-2.  The Seaforth Club then won 3 of the next 5 frames to take a 5-4 lead, but they were dealing with a side that are well known for defeating teams 6-5 after deciding frames.  And that is exactly what happened, as Greg Thomson potted the winning black ball in the deciding frame to clinch the first leg with a scoreline of 6-5 to The Francis Street Club.
The second legs of the semi-finals will take place on the 7th of March.
There will be a charity pool challenge taking place in The Blackstairs Lounge on Saturday 19th of February at 2pm, with all proceeds being donated to Caithness General Hospital.
