Hill Stars In Cup Win For Crown1

Martin Hill's fantastic performance on Monday night helped play a big part as his Crown1 side earned a 6-2 first leg victory over Blackstairs Lounge. The Crown side look to be big favourites to progress, requiring just three frames in the next leg to make it through to the Rockwater Shield semi finals. Hill made an outstanding 8-ball clearance in his singles, and would seal victory for his team with a 6-ball finish in his doubles game. Steve Atkins Bayview1 side faced a tough test in their quarter final tie as they went up against the ever improving Camps1 team. Rian MacGregor won the opening frame for the Camps, but wins from Atkins, Arthur Bruce and Ronnie Simpson gave Bayview1 a 3-1 lead. Shane Honeyman played well to pull one back for Camps, before the Lybster side stretched their lead again thanks to Ted Gunn. Camps1 reduced the deficit again and pulled it back to 4-3, but Bayview proved to be too strong in the doubles as they ran out 6-3 winners. Last years finalists Francis Street Club put in an excellent team performance to earn a 6-2 first leg victory over Bayview2. The club side would race into a 4-0 lead but Bayview fought hard to get a couple of frames on the board. The FSC quickly stopped any chances of a comeback to seal the first leg match 6-2. Second division leaders Queens Hotel have given themselves a great chance to the semis, after earning a 6-4 first leg victory over first division side Commercial. Jim Bain put in a great shift for Queens, but they found themselves up against it as they trailed 4-3 to an experienced Comm side. The Queens would work extremely well together as they won three doubles games in a row to clinch a fantastic victory.
