The Sinclair Bay Hotel hosted the 2013 Captain's Cup tournament this past Saturday in what turned out to be an exciting tournament with some great pool played by all participants.  The star of the opening rounds was Sinclair Bay's Milky Ronaldson, who knocked out two former Captains Cup winners on his way to booking a semi final spot.  He defeated Crown1 player Colin Banks 3-1 before beating Martin Hill in the quarter finals by the same scoreline.  Greg Thomson was impressive early in the day as he knocked out Perry Campbell and Gavin Simpson thanks to two 3-0 wins.  He would meet Ronaldson in the semi final.
The other side of the draw saw Camps2's Ryan Carter and Sinclair Bay's captain Greg Simpson cruise through the rounds and would go head to head in the other semi final.  This meant that three of the four semi finalists were 2nd division players who all played for the Sinclair Bay team.  Simpson got the better of Carter early on as he went into a 2-0 lead, but after two very long tactical frames Carter came back to level it a 2-2.  Both players missed big pressure pots near the end of the deciding frame to win, but it was Simspon who held his nerve better to knock out the four time Captains Cup winner Carter.  An all Keiss final was now guaranteed, it was just a matter of who it would that would face Simpson in the final.  Greg Thomson had been playing some fantastic pool all day, and he continued that form in the semi's as he defeated Ronaldson 3-1. The opening three frames of the final were all extremely close but it was Simpson who had the advantage, taking a 2-1 lead.  Greg Thomson never gave up and battled hard to win the next three frames to become the 2013 Captains Cup Champion.
