Fifth Rockwater Shield Win For Camps2
Posted by Ryan Carter on Tuesday, April 19, 2011
Camps2 have won The Rockwater Shield for a record fifth time as they
defeated The Francis Street Club in the final on Monday night. They
have now won the league and cup double for the second season in a row.
Alan Steven faced James Riach in the opening frame, and with the balls spread nicely early in the frame it was Riach that cleared the table with great composure to put the Camps side 1-0 ahead. Andrew Mcwatt and Ryan Carter then stretched the lead to 3-0 after two close tactical frames. The Francis Street Club got themselves off the mark in the next frame with Alan Stewart defeating Bruce Honeyman in a tight frame. The Camps team quickly halted any momentum The FSC were gaining, as Ian Mcdonald and David Hendry stretched the lead further to 5-1. The next frame saw a 25 minute marathon frame, with both teams having opportunities to finish it. In the end it was the pairing of Riach and Mcwatt that won the seventh frame and the match, giving Camps2 their fifth Rockwater Shield win in 9 years.
The Francis Street Club never really got going in the final, but will be pleased with their overall performance this season which saw them fight to the end in the title race. They are improving every year and will certainly be a big threat next season.
