Defending Champions Impressive In Opening Week

The Wick & District Pool League season got underway on Monday night with the first round first leg matches of the Rockwater Shield. Defending champions Camps2 got off to a flying start with a 6-1 win against a strong Crown1 side. Bruce Honeyman and David Hendry played some exceptional pool as they helped their side secure an important first leg victory. Stevie Wylie won Crown1's only frame of the match.
Greg Simpson's Sinclair Bay side showed they are real contenders in this tournament after a 6-4 win over the Queens. Greg Thomson's total clearance was the highlight of a well contested match.
Andrew Keith celebrated his 40th birthday in style, putting in a great performance as he helped his Bayview1 side to a 6-3 victory over Harper's.
Suzanne Carter's Camps1 side were impressive in their first match of the season, defeating the Mountain Dew 6-4. Carter, Liam More, Silver Fox and Lesley Anne Begg were all on form as they helped their side take a 5-2 lead. However, the Mountain Dew lads done well to fight back their way back into the match winning two of their doubles to make it 5-4. Camps1 player George Hutton kept his cool in the next frame potting a pressure black to clinch a 6-4 win.
The Commercial and The Seaforth Club were also victorious on Monday night with wins over Bayview2 and Crown2 respectively.
Blackstairs 1 & 2 both received byes into the next round, so they battled it out with each other for the Blackstairs Lounge Shield. It was a one sided affair as Ryan Cooks Blackstairs2 side demolished their rivals 11-0.
Teams who have not yet paid their fee's must do so by next Monday 23rd by handing it in to the Camps Bar.
