Crown & Bayview Battle To 6-6 Draw
Posted by Ryan Carter on Wednesday, January 7, 2015
Crown1 hosted Bayview1 in a top of the table clash on Monday night in week eight of the 2014/15 Wick & District Pool League season. Colin Banks got the home side off to a great start thanks to a win over Angus Mackay, but great finishing from the Lybster side would see them race into a commanding 5-1 lead. Crown1 have already proved this season that they are a team who will fight to the end, and some outstanding play would see them reel off five doubles games in a row to take a 6-5 lead going into the last frame. Bayview's Andrew Keith held his nerve to clear the table to earn his side a well deserved draw. Crown's Stevie Cunningham put in the star performance of the match, as he knocked in his second total clearance of the season. Bruce Honeyman's Camps2 side needed a win against an in form Sinclair Bay team to go top of the table, but would have to do it without their experienced captain. Ian Mcdonald put in a flawless performance for the Camp's side as he would win all three of his games (including an 8ball clearance in his singles) to help his team take a 6-4 lead. Jordan Tait and Milky Ronaldson played well to pull one back for the Keiss side as the match went to an important final frame. Camps2 worked hard to get themselves into a strong position in the twelfth frame, but they accidentally potted the black ball to end the match in a draw. Blackstairs and Retro1 both got 2015 off to a great start, as they recorded 9-3 wins against Camps1 and Commercial respectively. James Ross and Tam Sutherland won all of their games for Retro1 to help them secure a crucial three points in their away tie against The Comm. Hamish New put in a great display for Blackstairs, winning all three of his games to help his side move four points clear of the relegation zone. The Queens Hotel remain five points clear at the top of division two after a hard fought 6-6 draw against second placed Retro2. Mountain Dew continue to impress this season as they clinched a 7-5 win against Harper's to move up to third place.
