Camps2 Win Summer Pool League
Posted by Ryan Carter on Tuesday, August 14, 2012
Ryan Carter's Camps2 side produced some outstanding pool in Monday nights final against Blackstairs1 to become the first ever winners of The Wick & District Summer Pool League.
The match started off with the seasons top two players (Carter & Stuart Mckenzie) battling it out for both the opening frame and the player of the season award. Carter produced a fine clearance to win the frame, but would need Mckenzie to lose his next singles frame to win player of the season. Bruce Honeyman made it 2-0 to the Camps side before Ian Mcdonald executed a phenomenal 8ball total clearance to make it 3-0. Martin Hill (who has played Brilliantly this season) defeat Hamish New in a tight frame help Camps2 take a 4-0 lead. Stuart Mckenzie broke off and cleared the table in his doubles frame to pull one back for Blackstairs, but another fine clearance from Ian Mcdonald made it 5-1. Mckenzie then defeated Hill in his second singles which secured him the player of the season award. Tam Sutherland played some nice shots as Blackstairs1 fought back to 5-3. An exceptional clearance from Bruce Honeyman in the next frame clinched the championship for Camps2.
The Camps Bar hosted the 3rd place play-off match as Bayview went up against Sinclair Bay. The Keiss side were in control of the match most of the way through and lead 4-2 at one stage. Steve Atkins Bayview side fought back well as they leveled the match at 4-4. Sinclair Bay then took the next frame, before man of the match Milky Ronaldson finished off the match securing Sinclair Bay 3rd place.
Balckstairs1 player Stuart Mckenzie won player of the season, Camps2 captain Ryan Carter was runner up and Bruce Honeyman was 3rd. The young player of the season award went to Camps1 player Shane Honeyman. The Wick & District Summer Pool League would also like to thank George Zindilis and The Commercial Hotel for sponsoring & donating the league trophy.
