Camps2 Back On Top

Bayview1 and Camps2 showed on Monday night why they have been the top two teams in the Wick & District Pool League for the past four seasons with an outstanding level of pool played by both teams. Angus Mackay battled to a win for Bayview1 over Martin Hill in the opening frame, as the Lybster side looked to stretch their lead at the top of the table to five points. Wins from Alec Thomson and Ryan Carter over Andrew Keith and Arthur Bruce respectively helped Camps2 bounce back to take a 2-1 lead. Some exceptional tactical play from Bayview1 helped them win three out of the next four frames to lead 4-3. Camps2 then took control of the match, winning four frames in a row to seal the three points which takes them back to the top of division one. Carter and Ian Mcdonald winning all three of their games, and David Hendry's 8balll clearance from the break were the key factors in this vital win for Camps2. Alan Larnach's Crown1 side are still in the hunt for the title, and their 10-2 win over Queens keeps them in third place, three points behind the leaders. Alan Stewart continues to impress this season for Crown1 as he knocked in a great clearance to leave his opponent with seven balls on the table. Ryan Cook's Blackstairs side move five points clear of the relegation zone after a hard fought victory over Sinclair Bay. Kevin Cameron was the star player for the Commercial on Monday night, his total clearance was the highlight of his sides 9-3 win over the Seaforth Club.
Retro2 move up to second place in divsion two after a convincing 9-3 win over Crown2, and a promotion place is now in their own hands with five games left to play. Retro1 defeated Camps1 9-3 and will clinch the second division title if they can defeat Retro2 in next weeks derby match. George Smith finished off the match in style with a total clearance. Harpers move up to third place after their 6-6 draw against the Mountain Dew. Bottom side Bayview2 put in a good performance against the Francis Street Club but lost out 7-5 in a very close match. Graham Harper (Francis St Club) and James Stewart (Bayview2) were the outstanding players in this match.
