Blackstairs2 Progress After Tiebreaker
Posted by Ryan Carter on Tuesday, November 22, 2011
The Rockwater Shield Last 16 second legs took place on Monday night with
the Blackstairs derby the match of the night. After winning the first
leg 6-4, Blackstairs1 required just five frames to progress to the next
round. Stuart Mckenzie and Tam Sutherland outplayed their opponents to
put BS1 2-1 ahead, however the next three frames went the way of BS2
with fine wins from Alex Rosie, Ryan Cook and Keith Budge. The next
four frames were shared, which meant a 6-4 win for BS2 taking the match
to a 6 versus 6 tiebreaker. Stuart Mckenzie broke off in the deciding
frame and nearly completed a total clearance but narrowly missed his
last yellow. BS2 took full advantage of their opportunity as they got
themselves back into the frame, and it was John Martin who cleared the
table to clinch victory for Blackstairs2.
Sasa's Cellar Bar lost their first leg match 6-2 against second division leaders Sinclair Bay, but mounted a fantastic comeback winning the second leg 6-1. They will now meet Camps1 in the next round, who had a 12-8 aggregate victory over Bayview2.
Defending champions Camps2 defeated Queens 6-0 with captain Bruce Honeyman leaving his opponent with all 7 balls in his singles match.
Second division side FSC2 defeated first division's Seaforth Club 11-9 on aggregate.
Crown1, Bayview1 and The Commercial all comfortably progressed to the next round also.
