The first leg of Wick & District Pool League's Rockwater Shield Semi Finals took place on Monday night.  Six time champions Camps2 hosted last years beaten finalists Bayview1, while Ryan Cook's Blackstairs2 side traveled out to Keiss to play second division side Sinclair Bay.
Ryan Carter and Bruce Honeyman were impressive in the opening two frames as Camps2 took a 2-0 lead.  Bayview1 then took the next three frames to go 3-2 ahead thanks to wins from Steve Atkins, Billy Ackland and Ted Gunn.  The next frame saw Camps2 leveled the match at 3-3 as David Hendry completed an outstanding clearance to beat John Mackay.  Carter and Honeyman were again impressive in their doubles as they got the better of Angus Mackay and Andrew Keith to go 4-3 ahead.  Bayview1 leveled at 4-4 before Hendry and Ian Mcdonald put the defending champions back in the lead at 5-4.  The tenth frame saw a 5 minute delay as the Lybster side struggled to comprehend one of the rules.  The match eventually resumed and it was Bayview1 who took the tenth frame to take the match to a deciding game.  A long scrappy frame ended after some bizarre shot choices from the Camps team resulted in Bayview1 winning the match 6-5.
Blackstairs2 got off to a fantastic start in their semi final match against Sinclair Bay, they went 2-0 ahead after wins from Alan Forbes and Alex Rosie.  Sinclair Bay then won 3 frames in a row thanks to wins from Greg Simpson, Andrew Mackenzie and Gavin Simpson.  Jordan Tait was unlucky not to make it 4-2 to the Keiss side after potting both the black and white, meaning the match was tied at 3-3 after the singles.  A fine clearance from Davie Calder in the next frame helped Sinclair Bay go 4-3 up.  Sinclair Bay took the next two doubles frames to complete a well deserved 6-3 first leg victory.
