The sport of 8 ball pool continued its growth in the Wick & district area last weekend at the second annual Bfest Pairs Championship.  An extremely high standard of pool was on show as the influx of talented youngster's stood toe to toe with the more experienced older players.  Group A was dominated by the young pairing of Greg Simpson & Jordan Tait as they secured their place in Sundays semi final along with Blackstairs2's Ryan Cook & Alex Rosie.  Group B was not as straight forward as it ended in a three-way tie between Ryan Carter & David Hendry, James Riach & Bruce Honeyman, and last years winners Tam Sutherland & Stuart Mckenzie.  Camps1 pairing Shane Honeyman & Suzanne Carter performed well in Group B defeating teams from The Queens and The Crown but narrowly missed out on qualification for the semi finals.  A play-off was then played to decide the two teams from Group B who would advance in the competition.  Carter & Hendry defeated both Riach & Honeyman and Sutherland & Mckenzie to book their place in the semi's.  Defending champions Sutherland & Mckenzie were victorious over Riach & Honeyman as they too secured their place in the semi's.
The first semi final was a tight affair but it was Ryan Cook & Alex Rosie who took an early 2-1 lead over Tam Sutherland & Stuart Mckenzie.  The current holders of the Bfest title then stepped it up a gear as they ran out 5-3 winners to reach the final.  Sinclair Bay's Greg Simpson & Jordan Tait produced some outstanding pool as both players recorded total clearances to take a 4-0 lead over Ryan Carter & David Hendry in the second semi final.  Carter & Hendry battled back into the match to reduce the deficit to 4-2, but the Keiss lads halted any chance of a comeback to win the match 5-2.
Both finalists could not be separated as they shared the first 6 frames, but it was the more experienced pairing of Tam Sutherland & Stuart Mckenzie who successfully defended their title with an impressive 5-3 win in the final.
