Queens Win Division 2 Championship

Queens Hotel are this seasons Wick and District Pool League Division 2 champions, having defeated the Francis Street Club in the league decider. Played in the Seaforth Highlanders Club, this league decider was necessary because both teams finished on the same points with equal frame differences.

Steve Atkins' Bayview1 side have won the 2015 Rockwater Shield for a second time after a hardfought victory over the Queens Hotel. The team from Lybster, having previously won this knockout competition and having been strong contenders in league Division One were most people's strong favourites going in to the final against newly promoted Wick side Queens Hotel and indeed ran out 6-1 winners.

The Queens Hotel and The Francis Street both won promotion to division one on Monday night, but ended the season joint on points and frame difference which means they will have to playoff against each other for Wick & District Pool Leagues second division title. I have been asked by a few Wick players if i would consider running qualifiers for our players for the Scottish Pool Assiciation's IM events for 2015. 

The IM's are 5 national ranking events held throughout the year at various venues around the country, which you can qualify for through local qualifiers. Retro will host the 32nd annual Captains Cup event this Sataurday.

No entries will be taken after midnight on Friday, so teams have until then to submit their 2 players plus any other players who want to be put on the reserve list.  If there are spaces left, then those who are on the reserve list will have the opportunity to get into the tournament.  Any draw for reserve players will be done on a pro-rata basis to make it fair for all teams.

The Wick & District Singles Pool League will be starting mid-January aslong as theres enough interest. Entry will be £30 per person & all money will be paid back out to the top 3 players plus trophies. It will be capped at 16 players, so first come first serve.

Upcoming 8ball Events In Wick

There are two upcoming pool competitions in Wick in the next few weeks.

The Camps Bar are raising money for Cancer Charities, and they are doing a speed pool competition on Saturday afternoon (19th) starting at 2pm.  It will be £1 per go, and the player with the fastest time will get to take home a beautiful glass 8ball trophy for a year & then defend it the next year.  Speed pool is a great laugh, so we hope to see you there.

The 2013/14 Wick & District Pool League season got underway on Monday night, with the Lybster derby between Bayview1 and The Commercial the pick of the ties.  Raymond Gunn was the star player as he won all three of his games to help The Commercial cruise into a 7-1 lead.  Alistair Young knocked in an 8-ball clearance for Bayview, but it was the Commercial who took the three points with a 8-4 scoreline.

Queens2 were presented with the Summer Pool League trophy on Monday night after their 7-3 victory over Lybster side Bayview.  Tam Sutherland and Scott Risbridger played well in the early stages of the final as they helped their Queens side take a 4-0 lead.  Both doubles frames were shared, before Bayview captain Steve Atkins pulled it back to 5-2.  The next frame saw Alan Stewart grab the glory with some good play to clinch the Queens side the summer title.

I have had no access to a computer the past few weeks,  and had to borrow my sisters laptop last week to do the report.  I had 45 minutes to update the singles league aswell as the report & had to rush it. The first leg of Wick & District Pool League's Rockwater Shield Semi Finals took place on Monday night.  Six time champions Camps2 hosted last years beaten finalists Bayview1, while Ryan Cook's Blackstairs2 side traveled out to Keiss to play second division side Sinclair Bay.

Camps1 player George Smith saw off 26 other players to win his first ever Captains Cup title on Saturday.

Camps2 completed the league and cup double for the third season in a row thanks to a 6-4 win over Bayview1 in the Rockwater Shield Final.

The opening night of the Wick & District Pool league 2011/12 season saw last seasons division 2 champions Seaforth Club face the current division1 holders Camps2.

Blackstairs1 clinched the last title of the season as Stuart Mckenzie and Tam Sutherland won The Bfest Annual Pairs Championship.

Camps2 have completed their third treble in four years after James Riach won the captains cup tournament last Saturday.
The Crown Bar hosted the event which saw 29 entrants compete for the title.
The top half of the draw saw Riach ease through to the final, defeating Brian Banks, Bruce Honeyman and Hamish New on the way.

Defending league champions Camps2 look a certainty to retain their title after a 10-1 win against Blackstairs2.  All singles matches were closely fought, however it was the Camps side that took a 6-0 lead.  The lead was extended to 10-0 with all Camps players on top form.  Blackstairs2 saved themselves from being whitewashed after a fine clearance from Keith Budge in the final frame.

First of all id like to thank people/bars for their comments/emails on the IDEA of Captains Cup Qualifiers.  Most people seem to really like the idea.  Unfortunately there seems to be a minority who think i was trying to create these tournaments to get CAMPS PLAYERS into the CC.  This not only offends ME, but pretty much EVERY TEAM.

Rockwater Q-Finals Update

The Rockwater Shield Quarter finals took place on monday night, with defending champions Camps2 going through 12-7 on aggregate against the Crown1.
The 2nd leg was the complete opposite of the first as there was some outstanding pool on show.  Ian Mcdonald completed a fantastic total clearance, grannying Thomas Sutherland to make it 3-2 to the Camps. Captians Cup Qualifiers????

Before i go ahead and organize this, i want to hear from all of you!!!! Whether u think this is a good idea or not. so after reading this, go to the home page and give a yes or no in the chatbox.

After New Year i plan to have 8 tournaments (8 seperate venues most likely) with £3 entry where the winner will not only earn themselves a bit of cash but win a guarenteed place in the 2011 Captains Cup.  Each team will still have the right to put 2 players in as usual.  THESE ARE FOR EXTRA PLACES.  ...

Francis St Club On FIRE!!!!!

The Francis Street Club lads are on a brilliant run, and that has continued as they beat The Commercial 6-2 on Wednesday night in their first leg tie of the Rockwater Shield Quarter Final.  Martin Mcleod completed a nice clearance to clinch the eighth frame and the match.
Bayview1 versus Blackstairs2 will take place tonight.

There are 2 other games yet to be played.
SASA'S CELLAR v MOUNTAIN DEW2 (2nd Division)
BAYVIEW2 v QUEENS2 (2nd Division)

Bayview & Seaforth UNDEFEATED

Gameweek 6 in the Wick & District Pool League saw the top 2 teams battle it out as Blackstairs1 hosted Bayview1.
As expected the match was closely fought, and after all of the singles games had been played it stood at 3-3.
The next 4 frames were shared, taking the match to 5-5.  Now it was a matter of who could hold their nerves in a vital deciding frame.

Rockwater Shield Q-Finals

The first leg of the Rockwater Shield Quarter Finals took place on Monday with 2 of the matches being postponed due to weather conditions.
Defending Champions Camps2 faced off against The Crown1 with both teams looking for that advantage to take into the 2nd leg.

Blackstairs1 Defeat Commercial

Blackstairs1 and The Commercial played their game in hand on wednesday night with the Blackstairs lads getting the job done with a 7-4 win.  Taking them to joint 2nd in Division 1 alongside Camps2 and The Francis St Club.

The Commercial and Sasa's Cellar bar are now on a warning for not submitting their scores in time, and one more breach of the rules will result in a deduction of 2 points.

Francis St Get Vital Win

Week 5 in The Wick & District Pool League saw 2 on-form teams battle it out for a vital 2 points.
With Both Crown1 and The Francis Street Club on 6 points before the match, the winning team would be in great position for a title challenge.
The Francis Street Club quickly raced into a 5-1 lead, with only Bruce Davidson winning his singles match for The Crown.

Bayview "1" Top The Table

Week 4 in the Wick & District Pool League saw the top 2 teams play each other.  Crown1 Traveled out to Lybster to play Bayview1 but were convincingly beaten 8-3, putting the Bayview team top of the league and still unbeaten.
The Blackstairs2 were also out in Lybster, and quickly went 4-0 up against The Commercial.  But The Comm showed that "never give up" attitude, coming back and winning the match 6-5.
The Francis Street Club also had a 6-5 win, in a close battle with the Camps1.

Mistakes By The Paper

Just seen today's paper, quite a few mistakes they made in both leagues.  As you can see from my write-up on here and on caithness.org Bayview "1" beat Queens, not Bayview "2".  And The Commercial won 12-4, not 2-4.

Im Glad i post my write-ups on here and caithness.org, otherwise people would think that im the one making the mistake.

Rockwater Shield Last 16

Monday Night saw some big turnarounds as the 2nd legs of the Rockwater Shield took place.
After being 6-4 down from the first leg, holders Camps2 had to beat Blacktairs1 6-3 or better.  The Nerves showed in the first frame as Jimmy Riach eventually overcame Tam Sutherland, but Blackstairs1 levelled it at 1-1 thanks to Hamish New.  The Next frame saw Camps' David Hendry face off against Stuart Mckenzie, in a quick frame Hendry had a chance of a total clearance but missed his last yello...
